Bored? Here are some riddles. 

Are you perhaps bored and have decided to venture into the Internews?  These riddles will help you strike up a conversation with your long-lost family or your cousin whom you haven’t met in 8 years. It could come in handy if you are cosplaying as the Riddler too. Maybe you can keep it in your pocket for when you must strike up a conversation or when you must entertain a couple of people. Here are 26 riddles that will help you in these situations. (The answers are at the end.) 


  1. I speak without a mouth and hear without ears. I have no body, but I come alive with wind. What am I? (clue: Think broadly and avoid the literal) 

  1. You measure my life in hours, and I serve you by expiring. I’m quick when I’m thin and slow when I’m fat. The wind is my enemy. (clue: what does the wind threaten most?) 

  1. I have cities, but no houses. I have mountains, but no trees. I have water, but no fish. What am I? (clue: think of something inanimate) 

  1. What is seen in the middle of March and April that can’t be seen at the beginning or end of either month? (clue: Think in the literal way) 

  1. You see a boat filled with people. It has not sunk, but when you look again you don’t see a single person on the boat. Why? (clue: Think about the meaning of the word ‘single’) 

  1. What word in the English language does the following: 


The first two letters signify a male, the first three letters signify a female, the first four letters


signify a great, while the entire word signifies a great woman. What is the word? 


(Clue: You must think of one word that holds the others.) 



  1. What English word has three consecutive double letters? (clue: Because of its impossible nature here are some clues. First, think of words with double vowels. And you must know this is probably going to be a compound word. The first and last letters of those combined words will form one set of double letters.) 

  1. I come from a mine and get surrounded by wood always. Everyone uses me. What am I? (clue: The wood is the lead clue) 

  1. A girl has as many brothers as sisters, but each brother has only half as many brothers as sisters. How many brothers and sisters are there in the family? (clue: keep it simple and be sure to count the sisters and brothers in total and in terms of the number of siblings of each.) 

  1. What disappears as soon as you say its name? 

  1. I have keys, but no locks and space, and no rooms. You can enter, but you can’t go outside. What am I? 

  1. How many letters are in the alphabet? (clue: get very simple and straight-forward) 

  1. First, think of the color of the clouds. Next, think of the color of snow. Now, think of the color of a bright full moon. Now answer quickly what do cows drink? 

  1. First you eat me, then you get eaten. What am I? (clue: keep it simple and literal. And what and who is ‘you’) 

  1. What comes once in a minute, twice in a moment, but never in a thousand years? 

  1. What can you hold in your right hand, but never in your left hand? (clue: try looking at your own arms) 

  1. How can you physically stand behind your friend while they are standing behind you? 

  1. What can go up a chimney when down but unable to go down one when up?(clue: Think outside the box)
